Six Most Excellent Awards

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Wow…I received not one..not two…but six awards from Dan at Missing The Muse.  Thanks, my friend, and I feel these are quite special and am going to include them on my Awards Page.  Dan is on a kind of hiatus from blogging here…but he can be seen (alive and well) on his Facebook page.  Check him out…he’s very talented in many areas of the Arts and is definitely a Wordsmith extraordinaire!

So, as all awards go, we have some rules to follow to pass these wonderful awards on to others.  All my nominees deserve these six awards and many more.  All are excellent bloggers, writers, photographers and poets and I am feeling privileged that they share their works with me.

(1) Thank the person who nominated you!  “Thanks, Dan!”

(2) Do the Q&A below.  Look below…yeah…a little bit further…okay.

(3) Pass on the award to 10 – 12 deserving and inspiring bloggers, inform them and link to their blogs.  Okay, will do!

Questions to Answer:

Favorite colour? – Blue
Favorite animal? –  Dog
Favorite number?  -14
Favorite nonalcoholic drink?  –  Diet Pepsi
Favorite alcoholic drink? – Budweiser Lite
Facebook or Twitter? – All of them!
My Passions? – Writing, my family, and my blogging buddies.
Giving or Receiving Gifts? – I totally LOVE giving gifts…getting them usually makes me blush!

Whew, that’s the hard part.  Now for the nominees!

1.  We Drink Because We’re Poets – These awards go to the group of poets, storytellers and photographers that make up this great site.  Whenever you need some inspiration…jump on over and one of them will be sure to help you!

2.  Readful Things – Ionia is unique, interesting, funny and most of all, an excellent blogger.  Check out her site and be prepared to be wowed!

3. Musings Of An Old Fart – BTG is someone I feel is the Paul Harvey of our times.  His writings are informed, full of Americana and thought provoking!  When I think of Excellence…I thing of him.  Check his site and get the real low down on some of today’s issues!  I’m not sure he accepts awards…but I just had to add him!

4. Bashars Outpost – Okay, I don’t think Bashar accepts awards…but I’ve known him long enough and followed him with such delight that I couldn’t complete this list without his name on it.  His writings are direct…to the point…and often shocking!  He takes the liars, the cheats and the politicians of this world and holds them accountable!  But, he also makes me laugh and we’ve shared quite a few chuckles together!

5. GrannyK Reports – Granny K is my twin sister by a different mother!  Well, she could be! We share so many similar thoughts, observations and chuckles that we might have been meant to be twins but got mixed up in the last minute birth shuffle!  Anyway, Granny’s site is always a pleasure to read and I love her wit!  So, get over there and see what the other Grandma thinks about life!

6. Cubby’s Corner – Debbie Gies says it all with her tagline…”I am Me!”  She’s a wonderful writer and is kind enough to share her journey of self publishing with us.  Check out her corner of WordPress…it’s well worth a visit especially if you want to know more about self publishing.  She’s happy to help!

7. A Thankfully Imperfect Woman – Patty O is just like me…imperfect and proud of it!  Her posts are heartwarming and a real pleasure to read.  She’s down to earth and close to her faith…a perfect combination!

8. Dancing Thru Years – Bitty Girl’s site has it all.  Her thoughts, her trials and tribulations being a caregiver and some really awesome recipes!  She’s my age so we share a lot of the same experiences…and she shares my pain in being a caretaker.  So, hop on over and check her wonderful site!

9. The Vanilla Housewife – This mommy shares her life with her two kids and husband in a very funny, witty way.  I always enjoy reading about her family’s antics and her reactions to the world around her.  Grab a cuppa and a chair and drop in on a great blogger!

10. Making Meaning – Faeangel (Angela) does it all…poetry, art and great stories about her family.  Visit her neat little site and you’ll find she’s a pleasure to follow!  You’ll recognize her by her “inky” fingers!

11. Desiree – Juni Desiree is new to my site and each time I visit hers, I am enchanted.  She’s fresh, she’s bright and she’s a warm, compassionate young lady.  Check out her site and see why I love to visit her and hear her latest thoughts!

12. An Upturned Soul –  Ursula is another blogger that can do it all.  One look at her photographs will have you hooked.  She’s a great source of inspiration and deserves a visit! So, get over to her site and check it out!

Whew…I did it!  Just a note to all my nominees…there are “no strings attached” to these awards.  Please accept them as an acknowledgement for having enjoyable and interesting sites and for as recognition for your skills in entertaining your readers.  I hope you will pass them on to other bloggers and make their day but if time doesn’t allow that, at least take the following award buttons and post them on your site.  You deserve them!

To any bloggers that I haven’t included in this post or in previous award posts…please realize that I follow many, many bloggers and it’s impossible to list all of your most excellent sites…and I still have a load of awards to address so I might be saving you for one of those!

Congrats to all my nominees and another heartfelt thank you to Dan for nominating me for these awesome awards!

Just A Hop, Skip And A Click

v5d6qs.jpg

Ahhh…the sun is shining, the birds are singing and the old man left for the afternoon. Oh yes, life is good!  I’ve been busy, busy, busy today working on my new blog site and although it still has a ways to go, I’m really excited about the initial response I’ve been getting from the readers that have dropped in and followed.

I’ve had the time today to add some new features to “A Dream Come True” and I thought I’d get some feedback from my readers as to whether the new features help them navigate the new site more effectively.

The first concern I had was making my faithful readers navigate between the two sites.  I didn’t want to use Reblog since it seemed kind of cheesy to be reblogging my own posts from one site to another.  And, I’m anything but cheesy…right…right?  Of course, WordPress widgets came to my rescue.  I was able to put an image on both sites that enable the reader to just click on the picture and it brings them to the other site.

How neat is that?  Easy breezy!  Of course, Mrs. Gulch (The Witch Who Wouldn’t Leave) is in both sidebars now…had to do it…the old witch scares me!  Hope you like the new feature.

Another feature that I’ve begun to use on the new site is the Blogroll, which enables readers to link to sites I find awesome with just a click.  Now, I think all of my readers are awesome so I have a very partial list so far.  I’ll be adding links as I get time…I am trying to provide links that readers can use as a tool to find inspiration, motivation and writers resources.  So, if you don’t find your site on it yet, please don’t unfollow me.  As I said, I’m still working on it and I want to make it shine, so give me some time!

All in all, I’m having a great time posting on both sites. I look forward to hearing from you (if you feel motivated to do so) on how you like the site and how it can be improved.  So, if want, hop, skip or click on over to “A Dream Come True” and take a gander!

Love you all!

A Day To Celebrate And A Fond Farewell

1243863474433

Oh yeah..I’m dancing my old butt off!  So much to tell you all I just don’t know where to begin!

Okay, the most important thing…I’M NOW A PUBLISHED WRITER.  Can you dig it?  Can you believe it?  And you know what, it’s all because of you, my readers and fellow bloggers.  You pushed me with your comments, your encouraging words and your support and now, it is a reality.  I have a short story published and what a feeling it is!

You have helped me make a life long dream come true.  I have passed a milestone and you were by my side all the way.  You might not believe it, but, my eyes are tearing up as I write this.  You guys Rock!

I have also been working on creating a new blog.  WHAT?  Am I crazy…don’t I have enough to do?  Has Cranky finally gone off the deep end?

No, my friends.  I just felt that now that I am starting to experience a little success, I wanted to let others join in my journey and let me pass on some of the support and motivation that you have here on my personal blog.  I hope to use the new site to highlight blogs on writing that I discover, publishers that want our work and let people know that if this old fart can do..anyone can!

On the advice of one of the first bloggers that ever did me the honor of visiting my site and following me, Aurora of Metal Angel, I also got a domain name.  She warned me that some less than scrupulous people were watching for up and coming authors and would snatch their domain name with the intentions of selling it to the Authors for an tidy profit for them.  So for anyone that want’s to get to my sites, you can now use my http://memcmahon.wordpress.com and you’ll find me.  Thanks my friend! Check out her site, she’s a great girl!

Now, nothing ever comes without a price.  I have tried for two days to keep Mrs. Gulch on this site, while having my picture (as amateur as it is) appear on my new site.  No matter what I did, I couldn’t seem to get it to work.  So, I’ve had to wave goodbye to Mrs. Gulch and send her on her way back to OZ.  Hope she avoids falling houses on the way.  So, a fond farewell to you Mrs. Gulch, you’ve served me well and I’ll miss you.

So, my friends, I hope that you’ll hop on over to my new site and visit.  Click here on “A Dream Come True” and take a look around.  I’d love to hear what you think of it.

Also, my short story is now available on Alphie Dog Fiction and you can take a peek!  You’ll find it down the list under M E McMahon and they give you a sneak peek at the content.  I have two more scheduled for publication in July, so I’ll keep you updated when they’re available.

Now, many of you know that I don’t drink alcohol, so would you do the Cranky a favor?  Tip one for me tonight and wish me well!  And, don’t worry.  Grandma Says is still going to be my site to put all my personal stuff, you know, my thoughts, my views and my ridiculous animated pictures.  I love you all and hope to hear from you soon.

Love,

Cranky

The Posting Pit

320sw0sw7847

I’ve been a busy, busy bee these past two weeks.  Determined to build up my publishing credits, I’ve been polishing posts that I felt were worthy of submission to literary magazines. I spent time carefully editing them and sending them out to be considered.

I followed all the submission guidelines: the format of the manuscript is carefully followed, the spacing adhered to and the short bio or blurb carefully constructed.  I check the spelling of the editor’s name three times and finally e-mail my submission.

The other day, an awful thought popped into my head.  The stories I had submitted had all previously been posted on my blog site.  Since some of the publishers I submitted to requested unpublished works, does that mean that my stories are automatically refused?  They didn’t ask if I had a blog site, but it would be easy enough to find me out there in the cyberworld and find those stories.

I searched the Internet hoping that publishers didn’t consider Blog posts as published works.  Well, my friends, I’m sorry to say…they do!  Well, poopy-do and all that!  Now, I had submitted a total of three stories to an online magazine that accepts pre-published works, but there are not that many of them out there.  (All three got accepted, I’m happy to say!)

So, what’s a blogger to do?  We beta test our stories by sending them out to our readers on the site.  They either ignore them or make comments that convince you that it is worthy to be read by the general public or is of no interest at all to the everyday reader.  Their response usually tells you if you’ve got a good story going.

I guess that I will no longer be able to post my fiction/non-fiction/memoir stories on my site if I feel that I may want to submit them to publishers at a later date.  That sucks…but I guess it’s the only way not to have my story thrown into the Posting Pit.

If any published writers out there have found more information than I could about the legality of claiming a post as a unpublished work…let me know!  Otherwise, all the stories I wrote for my readers here are never going to go any further than this site.  And, again, that sucks.

But, it is what it is.  For those of you who are just gathering up the nerve to send in some of your work to a literary magazine, you might want to learn from my experience and follow the comments (if I get any) before you e-mail those stories that you once posted on your site.

I just thought I’d warn you about walking into the Posting Pit.

Love,

Cranky

Authors note:  I did submit a piece that was on my site to one of the publishers, before I realized that posts would be considered pre-published works.  I have the ability to withdraw it from consideration…but I haven’t done so yet.  Looking for more information before I drag it back home to die.

Sharing Some Love

What?  Cranky’s feeling good?  Oh, yeah.  And when Cranky feels good; she shares the love.

Now, I’ve been so busy today working on the second draft of “Just A Ticket And A Map” (my novel’s title), that I’ve not been able to crank out a legitimate blog today. Hey, I know you guys warned me about the work involved and you were right on the money.  But, I’m back on the word train and having fun revisiting and beefing up my story.

I developed a system of editing one chapter at a time; I even bought a printer so that I can make notes on the first draft.  Moving along..oh yeah..and it feels good!

But, I needed a break and thought I would share some of the pictures that inspire me and keep me going when I feel down. Wanted to share a few and some love with my WordPress family!

And, I can’t end without my favorite picture that I look at every day!

Hope you all have a great weekend…blog ya later!
