Some Epic News!

epicallyawesomeaward

I have received another award..not just any award..one of Epic proportions!  My blogging buddy, Merbear has nominated me for the Epically Awesome Award and I want to send a Epic thank you to her. Skip on over to her awesome site “Knocked Over By A Feather!”  Need a laugh?  Merbear is happy to oblige!  Check her out..you won’t be sorry!

Now, of course, there are some Epic rules to accepting this award.

1. Tell 10 Epic/Awesome tales about yourself.

2. Nominate 10 Epic/Awesome bloggers and let them know how Awesome they are.

It’s hard to think of 10 things that I have done that are Epic or Awesome, but I’ll try.

1.  I have a new puppy (King Buddy).

2.  I finished a first draft of a novel at Camp NaNoWriMo

3.  I am on a medication that makes me fart..a lot!

4.  I am finally starting to write about my experiences as a child; something no therapist has been able to accomplish to date.

5.  I have eyes in the back of my head (just ask my kids and my granddaughter.)

6.  I’m starting a diet..I’m sure I’ll be writing some posts about that “wonderful” experience.  A goal of 15 pounds will get me to where I was in my twenties!

7.  I’m a “real” redhead.  (And, no, I’m not going to prove it.)

8.  I’ve got 20/20 vision (thanks to cataract surgery!)

9.  I love my family, my dog and my WordPress friends.

10.  I giggle at funerals.

So, there it is.  Now for the fun part.  Before I list my nominees; you should know that as with previous awards I do a lot of research prior to nominating someone.  That’s why it takes me so long to respond to these awards.  Some of my nominees I have selected have been nominated by me for other awards; while some are new friends that I think fit the bill for this particular recognition.

That said, let’s get going with my list of nominees:

Kel – Free Little Words – This woman will show you the meaning of love with humor and laughter filled posts.

Ionia – Readful Things Blog – This lady writes the best book reviews filled with honest, funny and insightful comments on some really interesting reads.

Easter Ellen – Overcoming To Becoming – This Christian woman writes powerful, beautiful poems.  Her photos are stunning and her outlook on life is inspiring.

Kath – Minuscule Moments Of Inspiration – This Aussie writes beautiful posts that touch my heart.  I enjoy the peeks into life in Australia, a country I have at the top of my bucket list.

Tamrahjo – The Good, The Bad and The Ludicrous – She’s smart, she’s funny and she’s a very gifted writer.  I also enjoy visiting her site!

Amy Long – A Path To Recovery – This young mom has a wonderful voice that represents the struggle of recovery.  She touches me with her stories of her struggles and her triumphs.  She’s a true inspiration.

Special Little People – Aromatherapy for Children – This site offers great tips for treating your children’s sniffles and hay fever, using aromatherapy.  Great photos are to be found here also!

John – JohnBaylaya – I have nominated John before; he has just completed a touching and insightful series about Adoption that is so Epic and Awesome, so I had to include him on this list.

No’ono’o Pono – Diary of a Officially Crazy(er) Woman – This Hawaiian lady is writing about her struggle to cope with life after hearing those 3 dreaded words..”You have cancer.”  Her bravery is letting us follow her journey is truly awesome.

Ryan – True Life Exposures – This young father offers support, inspiration and shares life experiences in his most awesome blog site.  A great place to go to get some insight into everyday challenges.

So, in closing let me remind my nominees that I nominated them based on their Epic Awesomeness.  There are no strings attached, but I do hope you will pass this award on to other blogs that are Epically Awesome!  For those who are not on the list; you know I think you’re all Awesome and I hope you will check out my nominee’s sites.  I think you’ll find I have great taste in bloggers!

So, adios and adieu until we meet again.  Keep writing all those Awesome posts..I love all of them.  Again, thanks to Merbear for thinking of me.

Love,

Cranky

A Great Moment In My Life!

award (2)

Awarding the people who live in the moment

The noble who write and capture the best in life

The bold who reminded us what really mattered

Savoring the experience of quality time

Hey, check it out.  I’ve been nominated for the Best Moment Award by one of my favorite bloggers, Erica whose site “Encaustic Art Your House” captured and has held my attention and respect for quite a while.  This young lady lives in the Netherlands and what beautiful pieces she creates using an iron and beeswax.  “What?”  Yup, this gifted artist has finally found a fun way to use an iron!  Seriously, her art is amazing; her blogs are entertaining, and you really need to check out her site.

Of course, I must comply with the rules of acceptance to truly be able to be worthy of this honor.  The rules are quite simple:

  1. Create an acceptance speech either by video or a written speech post
  2. Pass the award on to 15 other bloggers

Now, a little known fact about Cranky.  She don’t do video..she rarely lets you include her in a picture!  So, a written speech it is!

To my buddy blogger, Erica and to all those in the audience today.  When I was told that I had received the “Best Moment” Award, I thought “SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!”  What an honor to be recognized and included with other illustrious winners of this award.  I’m grateful to Erica for nominating me and I’m grateful to you, my readers, who have shown me what “blog love” is all about.

When I first came to WordPress, I had little hopes for accomplishing anything more that having a place to leave my rants and ramblings.  Three months later, here I sit with another prestigious award, readers that amaze me with their support and encouragement, and fellow bloggers that delight me with their posts.  I have received motivation, inspiration and the “go get em” cheers necessary to drive me to write my first novel.  Finishing that all important first draft was honestly the “Best Moment” of my life!

There is no way I can ever thank all of you for reading my posts, commenting often and pushing that ever important “Like Button.”  That is where the real awards lie.

What’s that you say.  Oh, sorry folks, they tell me my time’s up.  So, let me close by saying thank you Erica.  I’m honored, I’m delighted to pass this award on and I’m seriously CHUFFED! (God, I love that word!)

So, moving on to nominate other bloggers for the great sites.  Before I begin, I want to know that it is always a tough job to choose nominees; you are all noble, you are all bold and you have all written posts worthy of this award.  But, since I’m limited to only fifteen, please know that if you’re not on the list, it’s not because I don’t love ya…it’s because there is no way to include all of you.

To my nominees, I will tell you that I give you this award with the standard “No Strings Attached.”  If you want to, pass it on..if you don’t want to, just take the award and know that I think you deserve the recognition for your great posts!

Here’s my list:

Author McCloskey Speaks – This lady knows of what she speaks of..she’s got a couple of books under her arm and a lovely way with words.

Experienced Tutors – This site is one of the most informative and delightful sites focused on education that I’ve ever come across.

How Not To Kill Your Parents – This girl makes me laugh with her witty posts about being married and living with her family!

Fingerprintwriting – Some lovely pictures and lovely words reside on this site!

Making Meaning – A “Over The Pond” mom with three kids who charms with with her stories and her pictures.I

Raising 5 Kids With Disabilities – This was one of the first sites I found and I count myself lucky to have found it!  If you need a motivational speaker…check out this site!

Mama Bear Musings – I have long loved this woman’s wit and insight into family life!

DaVida Nature Photography – Mary might think I’ve added her name because I’ve run out of choices ( I nominated her for the Sunshine Award).  Nothing could be less true.  This woman’s photos have given me some of the most peaceful moments of my life!

Miniscule Moments of Inspiration – And, this young lady truly inspires me with her lovely words and wonderful insights.

I Want To Be A Billionaire – He makes me laugh, cry and feel inspired!  And, I hope if Frank every hits that Billion, he’ll remember this old lady. 🙂 Kidding, big guy!

Thoughts On A Page – No nominee list that involves the Best Moments would be complete without my Irish buddy, Tric.  She delights me with each post she writes!

Shamanictracking – Want to meet a real Shaman?  Here’s your chance.  This site is beautiful and intriguing.

Neversaidbefore – This site has honest, open and touching posts from a young lady who puts her thoughts out there boldly!

Me, Myself and Kids – Larry is one funny dad.  Get to his site, grab a piece of cake and sit back and enjoy!

21st Century Mom – This young mother gives us a fresh perspective from her site.  I’ve just discovered her and am so glad I did!

All of my nominees are wonderful bloggers and I believe that your visits to their sites are well worth your time!

So, I’m going to go now and shine my award badge; take a breath and move on to my next post.  But, before I leave, let me again thank all of you for giving me the Best Moments of my life!

Beautiful Blogger Award

beautiful_bloggerawardpurple_rev

I am once again honored to receive another award by a fellow blogger.  I am truly chuffed (look it up, I had to!) to accept this award and to pass it on to others.  Since I’m at camp, and am drowning in words, I thought I’d take a break and recognize my nominator and pass the award on to other bloggers that have some really beautiful posts!

Now when my Buddy Blogger, Gwen, notified me that she had nominated me for this award, I quickly sent make a message asking her if she’d looked at my Gravatar lately?  Not too many people could look at my profile picture and consider it beautiful!  Gwen responded that the award was based on my writing.  Whew!  Thought Gwen might need a pair of glasses.

Well, the rules are pretty easy to follow:

(1) Copy the Beautiful Blogger Award logo and place it in your post.  SEE ABOVE!  You can also few it on my Awards Page.

(2) Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.  SEE BELOW!

(3) Tell 7 things about yourself.

(4) Nominate 7 other bloggers for their own Beautiful Blogger Award, and comment on their blogs to let them know.

Gwen’s blog, The 4 A.M. Writer, is one of the first sites I followed when I signed on to WordPress.  She’s funny, insightful and an overall great blogger!  Check out her site and be ready to be entertained!

Good golly, Miss Molly!  I have to divulge seven things about me that you haven’t heard before!  Well, here goes!

1.  I love sunsets and sunrises.

2.  I cried when I received my first piece of mail from AARP!

3.  I am lead singer for the Off Key Singing Club!  Well, at least I could be.

4.  I have a bad back that required surgery and now have more problems with it then I started with!  And people wonder why I’m Cranky!

5.  I have chicken legs, long but thin.  Cluck..cluck!

6.  I have my father’s sense of humor.  Weird, sarcastic and at times, very funny!

7.  Johnny Depp and I are having an affair.  (He doesn’t know about it.)

So, now that I’ve done the expose portion of this award, let me get to my seven nominees.  These are in no particular order as far as preference and I flaunt the fact that I am an equal opportunity award nominator!

1. John – Noontime Photography – This gentlemen has a gentle soul and a fantastic eye when taking his photos!  I am providing the link for his new photography site so you can see what I’m talking about.  Beautiful doesn’t begin to describe his work!

2. Sheila – Alzheimer’s Trail – Sheila writes about the challenges of taking care of her Mom in witty, touching and beautiful posts.

3. Ronnie Ann – Out Of My Head – This lady’s site is built on thoughts that just pop out of her head.  (A woman after my own heart!)  Her posts are insightful, fun to read and basically a great site to visit.

4. BTG5885 – Musings of An Old Fart – Another blogger who tells it like it is!  And, that my friends, is a beautiful thing to behold!

5. Timid Voice – Never said before – This is a blogger who is finding her voice..and a beautiful voice it is!

6. Savax – I Am Savax Blank – This young lady has a gift of putting thoughts into such beautiful posts, ones I enjoy very much!

7. The Inquisitive – Footprints (Petals and Raindrops)  – This young lady lives in Germany and has a natural curiosity about the world around her..and she shares her findings with us!

All of these bloggers have all the qualifications for this award.  Be sure to check out their sites for a beautiful experience!

Now, I know some of you are busy and don’t have time to pass on this award; there’s no obligation to do so (but I hope you will!) and there’s no rush to comply with accepting the award.  Just know that I consider all my nominees Beautiful Bloggers, as are so many others I follow.

Thought you’d like a picture of me hearing that I’d been nominated for the Beautiful Blogger Award.  As you can see, with or without makeup..it’s a face only a mother could love!

The Versatile Blogger Award

versatileblogger111

It’s Arts and Crafts time here at Camp NaNoWriMo, so as I mentioned, since I am all thumbs, I will put this class time to different uses. First, I hate to brag..I really do. Ask anyone, I’m a very humble person. But, since I’m about to pass this award on to 15 other Versatile Blogger’s, I thought I’d share with them my rewards for writing about all different walks of life and putting my views about current events (or past ones) out there.

Today, I woke up and discovered that I now have 300 WordPress Followers.  In just a few short months, 300 people decided that my posts might deserve a peek here and there.  Wow, I am honored and I want to thank each and every one of them for their support.  I also now have reached over 5000 views and over 1000 of those all important and cherished comments. In only two months, you all have made me feel appreciated and loved, so let me pass some of that love on right now.

Now, of course, there are rules that I and my nominees must follow to wear this badge with honor and they are:

  •  Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
  •  Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it.
  •  Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. ( You know who they are.  If not, you’ll be able to look through all the great blogs out there and in no time, you’ll find your 15.)
  •  Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — then let them know you think they’re special by notifying them of their nomination (you might want to give them a link back to your post.)
  •  Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

First, I want to thank Joel Tipple, whose blog “Write Here, Joel” is a source of inspiration to me!  Hugs and Kisses Joel!  Check out his blog, you’ll find it entertaining and insightful.

Now, of course I’m doing things out of order, so next, I’ll tell you seven things about myself that I haven’t mentioned before.

1.  I love the rain.  It’s when my muse speaks to me the most.

2. I love dogs and I dislike cats.  I can’t outright hate them because my granddaughter has one.  But, when given a choice, I’d rather pet a skunk than a cat.

3. I drive a little red car.

4. I cry at sad movies, happy movies, when people perform acts of kindness, well..the list is too long to list.  I cry at things that touch me, let’s leave it at that.

5. My mother is 87 and still kicking.  Hi, Mom!

6. I love music, especially tunes from the 60’s and 70’s.  Bon Jovi wants me!

7. I’m not always cranky, “Shut up, Danny!” Ignore my SO, he knows not of what he speaks!

O.K.  Now you know much more than you’ll ever need to about me.  So let’s move on to my nominees, who inspire me, who make me laugh and make me cry.

Gatlit Balli – Adventure In Words

Ben – “Ben’s Bitter Blog”

Katy – “Happy Little Somethings”

Bashar – Bashar’s Outpost

mewhoami – MeWhoAmI

Elizabeth – Myeyesareuphere

Ned Hickson – Ned’s Blog

Granny K – Granny Reports

Marsha – Another Boomer Blog

Valerie – Atlanta Mom Of Three

Professor Riley – Rileys Blog of Fame

Danielle – Keeping Up With The Holsbys

FTWM – Mummyshyez

Frances – Frances 59’s Ramblings

Sara – This Southern Mom

There they are!  My nominees that I feel deserve this award.

I want to have a word with my nominees.  This is a gift of love I am sending.  You are not obligated to pass this award on to others, but I hope you do.  I just want to recognize you for the great posts you write and to encourage you to continue writing them.  And, I’ve nominated you so other bloggers know you’re out there and discover how versatile you are!

Don’t worry if you don’t have a lot of followers and you can’t come up with 15 nominees of your own, just list the ones that do touch you in some way. (You can also go exploring like I did a few weeks ago; oh, the wonderful sites I found!)

O.K., now everyone can come back in the room.  I want to thank everyone for the love and support you have shown me in the two short months I’ve been on WordPress.  I also look forward to a long and wonderful relationship with you and your amazing sites.

Oops..I think I hear the dinner bell!  I must leave now and join my fellow NaNoWriMo campers and cook some words over the campfire.  See ya soon!

Love,

Cranky

The Liebster Blog Award

FINAL_zpsa0ae0d2d

Wow, what a month this has been!  I am dazed and amazed that time has passed so quickly.  Tomorrow is the ONE MONTH anniversary of when I first stepped foot in WordPress and what a ride it has been.  A lot more exciting than the tornadoes that I usually travel about in, I’ll tell you!

In the past month, YOU, my fellow WordPressers, have surpassed any and all expectations I had when starting my blog “Grandma Says..”  On WordPress,  I have read amazing pieces by my new pals, the writers; I have drooled over stunning photography by you shutterbugs and stared with envy at some beautiful artwork done by some extremely talented artists.  The poets of WordPress have even dragged me kicking and screaming into their world and made me appreciate their poetic skills.  I applaud you all!

Also, in the past four weeks, I have received the 2012 Blog Award and 4 nominations for the Liebster Award.  I am incorporating the two awards into this post as follows:

First I’ll address the 2012 Blog Award.

Blog of the Year Award 1 star jpeg

In February, I received a message from Suad Shamma, saying she had nominated me for the Blog of The Year for 2012.  I was stunned and read her post, which you will find here:  Smshamma – 2012 Blog Of The Year.  I was stunned and so very honored.  Now, this young lady was a little late in posting her nominations, but was kind enough to include me in her list.  If you visit her site, I think you will find that she is really talented!

So, I feel that I should thank her for the nomination, but, I also feel that 2012 is over and the nominations should stop here.  At least, that what I’m going to do.  Now, I put the “Blog” badge on my blog; I’ve given a link to her, and I’ve thanked her.  At this late stage in the game, I feel that we must move on to 2013.  So, again, thanks Suad!  Much appreciated!

Now, we’ll move on to the Liebster Award

liebster-award-feat

The Liebster Blog Award is given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. “Liebster” is German for “favorite”. This award is the “favorite blog award” and I’m sure my nominees will join in by welcoming newcomers by passing on this award. There is no penalty for not continuing this long, long tradition of saying “Hello” to newbies, unless you consider a visit by my Gravatar laying some guilt on your doorstep to be a penalty. 🙂 Kidding!  I know that being nominated gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling and I can’t wait to pass that feeling on to some of my new friends.

Now, of course, there are rules to passing on the baton, and here they are coming at ya!

Here are the rules should you choose to accept:

1. Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog

2. Link back to the blogger who awarded you

3. Copy & Paste the award to your blog

4.  List 11 Random Facts about yourself

5. Answer the questions asked by the blogger who nominated you.

6. Nominate 5 blogs that you enjoy to receive the award who have less than 200 followers.

7. List 11 questions for your nominees.

8. Inform them of their nomination by leaving a comment on their blog

Whew…I think I’ve got all the rules down.  Simple, right?  So, here I go with Steps One and Two.

I want to wholeheartedly thank the following people for nominating me.  These nominations made an old woman very, very, happy!  And for you readers, be sure to check out their sites.  They are great people and great bloggers!  So, my undying thanks to:

Gwen Stephens – “The 4 A.M. Writer”

lillyluna93 – “Writer’s Blog”

sarahcradit – “And Then There Was Sarah”

Pete Denton – “Pete Denton – Writer”

Step Three – Look to your right!  Done Deal. (However, it was a little more complicated than Cut and Paste.  Feel free to contact me if you have a problem with the Badge.  I’ll let you know how to find it and how to stick it on your blog.)

Step Four – 11 Random Facts About Cranky

  1. I have Red Hair (it stays that way thanks to L’Oreal.)
  2. I’m 5ft 4in tall.
  3. I smoke (now, don’t be a hater.  Everyone needs a vice and I’m trying to quit…honest!)
  4. I gave up drinking alcohol on May 27, 2012.
  5. I have four children and four stepchildren (although I’m not married to Danny, my SO, these kids are mine too.)
  6. I hate Liver.
  7. I love Lobster.
  8. I wear a size 7 shoe.
  9. I have been married three times (I refer to them as Plaintiff No. 1, 2 and three, respectively.)
  10. I love people (o.k., a lot of people.)
  11. I’m not always Cranky.

Step Five – Answer 11 Questions from the person who nominated you.

Now, since 4 separate people nominated me, I am going to answer 4 questions from each nominating blogger.  I know that’s not strictly the way the game is played, but that’s how I roll.

Questions from THE 4 AM WRITER:

1.  Story exists in many mediums. What’s your favorite form?  Novel or movie?

I believe that I have enjoyed many more books than movies (although I love a good flick.)  So, I would have to say Novel.

2.  Do you listen to music or other aural ambiance while you work?

Oh, yeah.  Gotta have the tunes!

3.  If you could visit one more place in the world, where would it be?

Ireland.  I have always wanted to see if all of my distant relatives have been released from jail yet.  They do tend to drink a bit!

4.  Who is your favorite fictional character?

Edgar Freemantle (Duma Key by Stephen King)

Questions from WRITER’S BLOG:

1.  Favourite guilty pleasure?

Chocolate…chocolate..and more chocolate.

2. Explain your blog title.

I felt that I had a lot to say and since I am a Grandma, my blog just seemed to scream “Grandma Says..”

3. What is your favourite line from a book, movie, TV show, play, speech, poem or song?

Itsy Bitsy Spider went up the water spout!

4. Most thumbed book in your collection?

Duma Key by Stephen King.  I have read a lot of his works but this one comes back to haunt me time and again.

Questions from AND THEN THERE WAS SARAH:

If someone follows your blog do you think it good manners to follow theirs and do so?

I don’t think good manners is the point.  I think if you see a blog that interests or moves you, you follow it, whether that person follows you or not.

Approximately how long do you spend blogging each day?

According to my SO, way, way too much.  But, honestly, I probably spend one to two hours a day writing in my blog and depending on what’s going on in my life..(he.who.must.not.be.ignored must be served) I probably would say about 2 to 3 hours reading posts.  I’m retired so I have more time than most to spend in Blogsville!  Then I spend 1 – 2 hours on my short story writing.

Were you pleased or annoyed to receive this award?

Of course, I was thrilled!  All four times, and I mean that.  This award is meant to be a welcome gesture and I felt the love each time I was nominated!

Has eleven of everything on this Liebster Award post been too many?

I think eleven of anything is too much!  But, I did have to spend a whole day getting the bulk of this done.  I think five would suffice!

Questions from PETE DENTON – WRITER:

Pete refrained from asking questions of his nominees, and I respect his decision.  He had to answer to many awards so I totally understand!  So, we’ll just move on to the next step.

Step 6 – Nominate 5 Blogs you enjoy

Now, (Drumroll, Please) my nominees for the Liebster award are as follows:

John Malone – The Wallah of Whimsey

MG – Smartassery Inc.

Susie Norden – Red Asparagus: The Sugar Bee Chronicles

Ily1205 – Serial Outlet For Creative Writing

Grace Makley – I’m A Writer/Journalist Working on Wanderlust, My First Book

Clodagh O’Brien – eternally search for the perfect set of words

Mywaterblogue – My Water Blogue

Step 7 – My 11 Question for My Eleven Nominees

(I found out half-way through this project that I only had to choose 5 nominees, but since I was nominated multiple times, I took the liberty of choosing 11.)

  1. If you were stranded on a desert island, which storyteller would you like to be on your island?
  2. Why did you choose WordPress?
  3. Do your family and friends support your passion for your blog?
  4. How often do you post on your blog?
  5. Have you met any of your fellow WordPress Bloggers?
  6. What is your favorite hobby?
  7. Where do you look for inspiration for your works?
  8. Would you rather read or write?
  9. Who’s your favorite relative and why?
  10. When you go to the Reader, do you read the blogs you follow first and then browse through the topics to find more?
  11. How did you hear about WordPress?

Whew, I’m done!  I just want to say that I feel privileged to be a member of the WordPress community and look forward to a long and happy relationship with all of you.  Now, I have to run and notify my nominees.

WRITE ON!
